T-Series Ugh, clutch fluid all gone...

I was going to post last night about the clutch feeling like it is grabbing lower and lower on the pedal. going to ask if that was a symptom of losing pressure.

No need to ask now, got in today and the clutch felt awfully light. A quick turn of the key let me know there was no clutchin' going on.

Hopefully I'll have some time to get it up on stands tomorrow and have a look. Looks dry under the slave, but that will take closer inspection.

Re: Ugh, clutch fluid all gone...UPDATE

OK,
finally had time to bleed the system, clutch works great and I believe I have isolated the leak. (Steve wins the grand prize. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thirsty.gif )

as you can see the rubber hose is nice and new. the leak appears to be coming from where the metal line attaches to the rubber hose fitting.

Before I go and snap something, is this common? will i need to replace the metal line? or can I clean up the existing fittings and get it to stop leaking?

I know i can get at least 500 miles before the fluid goes dry, and topping it off at each tank of gas will keep me on the road, but obviously i would like to sort this out.

Thanks,
Rob

Re: Ugh, clutch fluid all gone...UPDATE

Did you replace the little copper washer?

Re: Ugh, clutch fluid all gone...UPDATE

Hey Tony,
I wasn't the one who changed these, so I don't know. Looks like a good place to start. It's a real slow leak, so it's worth replacing the washer and seeing if that helps.

Thanks,
rob

Re: Ugh, clutch fluid all gone...UPDATE

That side doesn't have a washer, IIRC. Only the slave cylinder end has one. That fitting is a flare fitting. You could try just tightening the gland nut in the hose, but be warned: if the flare is split or the fitting has been cross-threaded the leak could get worse. The best method would be a disassembly and thorough inspection of the fitting and its component bits.

There ya go!

(wasn't sure if it was OK to post the image form the moss site, so i just put the links, don't want to infringe on any copyrights /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif )
Hey Doc,
It looks like the kind of thing that can get worse if you over tighten, that's why I'm asking.

According to moss, it looks like the washer is between the nut and the bracket on the metal line side of the bracket, which is where it appears to be leaking from.

I don't think i will get to it this weekend, it's too nice out!

Re: Ugh, clutch fluid all gone...UPDATE

If yer lookin' at #21, that's a lockwasher.

Mebbe we need to "talk".

I don't have a spare flexi-hose here, but p'raps we can figger out what you've got.

Re: Ugh, clutch fluid all gone...UPDATE

Hmm, I was looking at 21, since that's where my leak is coming from.

Where is the "little copper washer" that Tony mentioned? Is that #20? The hose and the slave are dry.

Re: Ugh, clutch fluid all gone...UPDATE

Yep, the washer is down there on the slave side of the hose. The leak you describe can be one of three things: the gland nut isn't completely tight, the flare on the Bundy pipe is split and leaking or the fitting has been crossthreaded.

Re: Ugh, clutch fluid all gone...UPDATE

About those Moss links. They are straight copies from the orginal parts manuals with Moss numbering added.

Not only that but I would expect Moss loves folks to use them, good for business.

thanks Tony, better safe then sorry as far as copywrites are concerned.

Doc,
I guess I will very carefully check for the nut being loose. the other 2 are what i am afraid of.

Thanks,
Rob
