ufo hunters

Re: UFO hunters

Sometimes I think we are alone in the Universe, and sometimes I think we are not. In either case the idea is quite staggering.

Re: UFO hunters

Since the topic's open, I'm a resident alien!

(Insofar as Willimon and Hauerwas define the term... )

Re: UFO hunters

That book and a few others Greg. Good reading if nothing else.

Re: UFO hunters

Never saw the show, never (as far as I know) been abducted by 'aliens'.

I have no illusion that with all the mass an' matter in our universe(s) we could be the ONLY lifeform to become self aware and inquisitive.

I kinda wish we could just get on with the club meetings. I'm gettin' bored just sittin' about WAITING. :jester:

Re: UFO hunters

Who knows, maybe WE'RE the aliens and the UFOs are the ones who belong here?????

Well, you can't DISPROVE it!

Re: UFO hunters

Here's undeniable proof that the aliens like Little British Cars...... :driving:

Re: UFO hunters

I too have witnessed some very strange things in the NIGHT sky!
U.F.O.`s? I have to say yes ... {at least I couldn`t identify them!}
Could I definitely say they were aliens from outer space? NO.
My general consensus is ... One had to be pretty arrogant to think we are the only intelligent life forms in this vast universe!
The question remains .... Have they visited earth?
For some ... the hard evidence is still out.
For others .... archeological evidence points strongly in favor of visitations
As for me .... I am sitting on the fence! Leaning SLIGHTLY toward the archeological evidence.

Another story:
For years, Sitting on my patio {mostly late evenings} On occasion {more than once}I hear what can only be described as Low flying Jet engine exhaust interrupting the silence of the night. Not moving across the sky mind you, but instead seemingly stationary. No AIRCRAFT IN SIGHT, none!! nowhere!! PUZZLED? yes ... TO SAY THE LEAST!
After years of wonderment .... finally ... the answer.
I live on the west side of the Oquirrh Mountains {Elevation 10,676} Tooele valley Utah {very close to the foot of the mountain}{Approximat elevation 4,500} On the east side of this mountain range is Alliant Techsystems (formerly Hercules) facilities in West Valley City and Magna.
This facility builds and tests rocket motors, the exhaust for these rocket tests is pointed west above the mountain. So what seemed illogical at the time {jet engines with no airplanes in sight} had a very logical explanation. I was hearing the exhaust of these rocket motor tests. At the time, before finding out what and where the noise was coming from, my mind conjured up all kinds of explanations. Did I prescribe these noises to Aliens? Umm maybe remotely, but not really. Some things have explanations and some seemingly do not!
As for evidence of beings from outer space ...... I`m keeping an open mind.

Re: UFO hunters

I had a girl friend once who was definitely from outer space, or was that spaced out. Although it didn't matter at the time.

The thing about alien visitations is the distance that needs to be covered. The nearest star to us is 4.2 light years away (that's about 24,690,226,567,371.152 miles a mere 24+ trillion miles) and I believe a tertiary system that probably would not support a very stable planetary system.

Now I know people muse about worm holes, warp drive, and the such, but for these modes of travel to exist, would one not have seen some natural visitor, like a big rock or such? After all, all the things we have now are things that existed in our world, just in different forms of usage. I guess if all of a sudden something mysteriously disappeared like a mountain or building, poof gone, then I would be a believer.

The other thing that makes me a skeptic is the question, "How did they us?" Some would say from our radio broadcasts. Somewhere out there you could conceivably pick up the original reading of "War of the Worlds" with Orson Wells. (probably not due to the frequency he broadcast on), but surely the beamed RF we use to up link with satellites is still going into the void and could be detected if you wanted to, and were in the right place and time, but this was after Roswell.

Also the idea of an intelligent life form traveling so far, only to stay a short time, and then with no meaningful context seems a long shot to me. Well maybe not, I guess it could sort of been like when my ex-mother-in-law would visit.

Anyway for now, I am content to watch reruns of SciFi movies and say "if only"

Oh, I have no doubt there are terrestrial UFOs so I will leave it at that.

Re: UFO hunters

Ray - my thoughts exactly.

And is there life elsewhere? Possible but they have not visited earth. Distances are just too far.

It is interesting when you ask someone what they think the asteroid belts look like they give an explanation similar to a Star Wars film with millions of rocks so close one has to weave through them. Those rocks are millions of miles apart - millions. And that is, astronomically speaking, next door.

The distances are just too great to think anyone has zoomed in for a few hours and gone back home.

I like the UFO people from the 1950's who were flown to Jupiter and landed there. Time proved them -I'll be nice and say - wrong.

Have I seen UFO's? Saw 3 on 2 occasions. But whatever they were they were not from our next door galaxy or any other galaxy, our next door star or elsewhere in our solar system.

Re: UFO hunters

Wife and I saw one in the early 80s in Jax Fla.
Huge triangle with corner lights. It made unbelievable maneuvers
and was totally silent. We saw it from a car in the near distance. Stopped the car and got out. It came directly overhead
at about tree top level. Big as a freaking house. Scared the chit out of us we jumped in car and locked the doors.
It slowly left and then sped away. It was in the papers there the next day. Story said the nearby Naval Electronic Warfare Range picked it up on radar and scrambled jets to intercept
as it entered the range but it "lost" the jets. Yeah..right.
My guess? Skunkwerks kinda deal. None the less it was a UFO for us. The silence and amazing turns were VERY spooky and as we watched and discussed how we'd like to see it closer up the dang
thing just zoomed RIGHT over our heads and stopped. I mean we could see details of the exterior and it appeared to have no windows and was too skinny for person to have stood up right
in but as I said it was HUGE. The cover story from the Navy the next day did it for me. I guess too many people saw their toy
to not say SOMETHING....lame as it was. My guess unmanned drone deal.

Re: UFO hunters

Just my thoughts, not to raise controversy!!!!!

We are judging distance, time, and space as we know it.
Who is to say things are or are not different in another place.
What may be a lifetime journey to us, could be an eyeblink for others.
And please remember, it is LIFE AS WE KNOW IT!

Now I am not saying there is extraterrestrial life, but if it is different than ours, it could explain many things.

Re: UFO hunters

Astro Physics and physics have come a huge way in the last 100 years. It has come a tremendous way in the last 25 years and has come an incredible long long way in the last 10 years. Traveling even close to the speed of light just isn't going to happen. Traveling gazillions of miles in the blink of an eye isn't going to happen nor has it.

Fun to think it could and it makes great news, so called documentaries and novels. If all those who are involved in these studies wrote only what it is all about it would not sell . Not unlike TV shows about sharks and other horrible killing creatures of the seas. If the real truth is all that is said, it will not sell

gimme an SU and a pair of pliers and I'll be happy :smirk:

Re: UFO hunters

We gotta find you a new TOY!!!

Re: UFO hunters

yeah, eventually. Not much to tinker with on these new fangled cars. Well, I could, but using a PC to tune the mixture just isn't natural... ya know?

What's funny is a lot of kids in these new/newer cars think slapping a new intake and exhaust on the car is "tuning" ...
