Don - you can add any forum member as a "UBB Buddy". I don't think it's a huge feature, but when you are sending PM's you can select one of your buddies from a drop down list. This is can be helpful if your buddy has a similar username to someone else, or if they have special characters or spaces in their screen names. Your buddies show up in your user profile.
It's just a feature that's built in to the forum software that Basil runs.
