Has anyone used a U-Haul trailer with their Healey? It looks a little massive and I am afraid the ramp may be at too much of an angle for the low draft of our cars.
 
My dad used to tow his race boat with the Healey. The ramp to launch the boat into the water wasn't much of an issue. He did go through a couple clutches however. Was that what you were asking?
 
I've used a U-Haul trailer to pull my BN1. If there was any issue it would be the rear exhaust. Just find a low spot for the trailer when loading/unloading.
 
I hit my muffler taking the car off on level ground. When I was loading/unloading facing downhill I didn't have a problem.

To answer your question more seriously; no personal experience mind you. I’m guessing you’re thinking of trailering down to Conclave? I’ve heard concerns about ruining the transmission on long tows due to lubrication problems. Disconnecting the drive shaft would prevent that. I’ve also heard people say they’ve trailered their Healey with no ill effect. I’d probably disconnect the shaft for peace of mind since rebuilds aren’t that cheap. Not sure what route you’re thinking of taking, but the 5 Fwy, South of downtown Los Angeles is pretty brutal. Lots of potholes and uneven pavement to bottom the car out on.
 
I just hauled both of mine (67 BJ8's) from my parents home over Christmas break. Loading was easy as my Dad's garage has a short incline into it and the trailer ramps were basically horizontal. Unloading on a flat driveway required placing a couple of boards under the ramps to decrease the angle a bit. Otherwise the muffler (not resonator) would have hit the inner flange on the trailer runner. The second car had no engine/trans/exhaust and cleared fine as is. I have a few pictures I can send you of this one on the trailer if you'd like. Otherwise it was a piece of cake.

Greg, I think you are thinking of a dolly that only cradels the front wheels. I'm thinking of a car transport that the car sits on. I can get a great deal on a rental. Ten days for the price of four. But I now think we will just drive unless some one can encourage me about these trailers.
 
Yes, I was thinking dolly. So you can strike everything I said, 'cept about the 5 Fwy. :wink: I think a trailer would probably be fine with a heavy enough tow vehicle.
 
I used a U-haul trailer to move my BN6 from Louisiana to a shop in Central Florida.

No problems come to mind, except that it would not start when I wanted to put it on the trailer. Bought a battery at wally-world and no trouble getting it started to drive off the trailer.
