Typical Gas Mileage for Big Healeys

Hello out there,
It seems to me that my healey likess gas more than I had anticipated.(somewhere in the 15mpg range)I was wondering about what everyone else is getting.This is a BJ7 that I just finished out in May and have only driven about 1000 miles.Thanks,Ben /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

15 mpg is not unusual. My highway milage is 21 to 23 and 14 to 16 around town.

My 66 BJ8 gets in the low 20's on the highway if I pretty much stay in 4th overdrive and below 80 MPH. Never really checked the in town figure.

My Healey is a gas hog, and with only 10-11 USgal tank I do stop alot to refill. Oh well, nice to have friends with gas stations. If ever in Santa Cruz stop by Beach City Gas on Ocean St. Brian is a Healey owner (well the Healey is his wife's). My guess is about 10-20 Mi/USgal depending upon how heavy the foot is.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I did a big trip out west to Conclave (7500 miles) this past June driving on both two-lane roads and interstates. I consistently get 23-24 mpg at legal or higher highway speeds, perhaps one or two more if driving at 55. For local driving (I live in a rural area and do not drive "in town" per se) I knock of 1-2 mpg at most. I know this sounds high but that is my consistent experience. My speedo/odo is calibrated to dead-nuts on. Premium gas all the time, btw.

I would expect the 4 cylinder cars to be around 4-5 miles per gallon more economical, even though they are similar capacities. I'm getting 20 round town and 24 on a longish run from my 100-4.

Yes, the so-called "Lempert rearend."
At 3000 rpm's in 5th I am doing right about 70 mph.

On two trips to Lake Tahoe (2002 and 2004) and a trip to Eureka last year from Southern California, my 100 averaged just under 23 mpg without the Lempert gears. George Keens, with whom we caravaned (and original owner of his BN2) also averaged about that amount.

Hi,

I'm running triple 1 1/2" HS Su. +.150 Pistons. Header and full modded head. 12lb flywheel. 1960 trans,.778 overdrive and 3.545 rear end. '58 BN 6.

I get 32mpg imperial and in 4th over I'm doing 70mph at 2700 rpm. Speedo is accurate.
