On my TR4A, I somehow have an extremely tough accelerator spring at the firewall (near the rear carburetor). I ordered a new one. It’s at least as taught. Is this normal? The welded holding eyelet on the lower firewall seems relatively delicate.

Also, I own two brand new choke cables with the twist handle lock. I think they match an MGB but I have a TR4A. Both are too long. I can’t shorten them because they are encased in vinyl and have a special fitting at the end. I’ll resell on EBAY unless anyone knows of a routing/workaround.

Thanks.

As for springs...if there's a well stocked ACE hardware or Lowes or Home Depot, check out the spring selections in the hardware department.
Pick up a few that look about right and try them out.

Q1.
Yes that is normal for that spring. I believe any lesser strength will give you-- nothing. Think of the force of your leg/ foot on the pedal multiplied by the arm ( on the gas pedal) . Your HS6'S also have several springs to bring things back to neutral / off.
Q2
I use the double choke cables from a GT6 for my HS6 carbs ( that is on 3 TRs). First to fit through the small hole on the carb you can not have anything but the cable. Second to shorten the cable I used a dremel tool to carefully cut the outer metal sheath without damaging the inner cable. Remove the outer sheath and determine the best length for the inner cable. I also found it best to apply solder to the cable before cutting it. This is to prevent the cable from unwinding.
