GT6 two GT6 front suspension questions...

first off, when dismantling the front suspension parts for cleaning and painting, i found an aluminum spacer between the spring holder (attaches to shock and holds spring on) and the suspension turret. when i got to the other side, there was no matching part. in the parts book, it states something about only this spacer existing on the left hand side. what is this part all about?

the second question is in the parts drawing there is a cone shaped piece between the hub and the spindle piece. does anyone have a picture? i don't seem to be able to find mine and was hoping a picture would jog my memory.

thanks for the help.

The spring spacer was put there to off-set the weight of the driver and the gas tank being on the same side.

Yep Jeff is correct about the spacer being their to offset the weight of the driver on a LHD car.

Could the cone shaped piece be the inner race of the wheel bearing? Those are the only cone shaped bits I can think of.

well, i investigated further last night, both in looking through my parts and through my various books. The problem seems to exist between the parts catalogue(vic brit and spitbits pics) and the factory workshop manual. the picture posted is from the workshop manual and has no cone (apparently a "water jacket" with a part number).

I fitted the pieces back together without the spindle and the bearings, but it seems that i might not need it. i guess this is another one of those errors that seem to exist in manuals and documents.

thanks guys, and i'd love to hear some further opinions, like if i might actually need it.

Well, for what it's worth, it's shown on my factory parts breakdown, P/N 138559.
I can't locate anyone that has it, and I don't remember there being any on my MkI.
My gut says don't worry about it.

Only GT6 factory catalogue I have at the moment is for the Mk3. It does picture that part and ID's it as a "water shield"; perhaps it is an alternative to the felt seal that normally goes against the vertical link? I see that it's paired with a 138051 "sealing ring" as well. Both parts are also shown in my Vitesse 2L SPC (same mechanicals as GT6 for the most part).

Makes me realize that I apparently never had the front hubs apart on any of my GT6s; was I just lucky? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
