Rickey - glad you're here & I really like your idea & attitude about the car....heck, you can drive it regularly until the engine pops up!

The engine's already poped up, I've had it for a while. I'll let you know about the head, I'm supposed to get the car this week. The shipper (as usual) took a while to pick it up contrary to what I was told, but no big deal as long as it comes in undamaged.

I am the guy that said "MGB Lump" partly out of a bit of disappointment, used to see twin cams for sale from time to time, seems like I hardly ever do anymore, so seeing the car, then the motor a bit disappointing. I have no idea of values these days for because I haven't seen many or any for sale lately. Sorry Plumberman if I offended.

Please note I did say nice things about the TC later in the topic--enjoy the car

I'm a plumber, I can't be offended unless you start trying to spread my wealth around.
Actually I had the opposite reaction when I saw the unusual engine under the hood in this Twin Cam. To me it looked like the perfect set up, Twin Cam chassis and brakes with the bullet proof 1800 with about $3000.00 worth of breathing equipment bolted on. I can't wait to see what it'll do. Of course it helped for me to know Twin Cams and their values, the 5 wheels alone are worth around $7000.00 so just how big a bath could I take?

Bill thanks for the voice of reason and I'd like to buy your Twin Cam engine if it's for sale although I don't need it for this car, I'm always in search of Twin Cam/Deluxe bits. Would you mind giving me some details about the Twin Cam engine with the webbers? Does the engine need modifications to make that set up worthwhile for a street machine, or is that impractical.

The engine in the picture is a 1950 cc Twin Cam with 12:1 compression and Cosworth cams - not street friendly (it is out of my race car). You can run Webers on the street and they are trouble free if set up properly, but the stock H6 carbs do a good job, so it really isn't necessary for plugging around town. The absolute best accessory for the Twin Cam engine on the street is a Lotus rev limiting rotor.

Please send me the serial number on the HRG head - I keep track of them and have info that might interest you at HRG INFO I'll add you to my data base.

But, send the head to me!

Well after a little bit of trouble shooting on the ignition I fired up the Twin Cam with the 1800 HRG head and webbers...all I can say is it's not like any MGA or MGB I've ever heard or driven. This thing's a beast, way more power than my 1800 MGA coupe or my other Twin Cam with the TC engine. I can see how people get hooked on racing these things now, I never knew you could get that much power out of one of these engines. Also to my surprise it's got a close ratio gear box that makes shifting through the top 3 a little more fun.
I'm a little confused as to how it had a neg gnd petronix unit installed but the car was wired pos gnd, I guess that's what fried the petronix. I made the change to one 12V batt and went neg ground. The confusing part is the guy I bought it from said he had run the engine, I don't see how it would have run with that set up. I installed a new neg gnd petronix and it works great.
The brakes were semi locked up but after pulling the master and working to free up the stuck piston it works like it should now. Those dunlop disks are very effective I can see why people like them.
I'm going to have to play with this one a little before deciding what to do with it.

mehheh... "like" may be a premature descriptor. Think: "Dunloop" here.

They're GREAT when they work.

And a belated WELCOME! to the 'home' too.

You may have a very unusual engine.

Look for signs that someone has race modified it.

Threaded cross drilling plugs.
Freeze plug retainers.
12 point nuts on head bolts.
Aluminum back plate.
ect....

It is possible to spend $20,000.00 on a MGA engine now.
It is possible to get near 200 hp out of a non-Twinkie engine.

And yes...They develop a quite different personality.
'Beast' is a nice way of putting it :jester:

You know you have gone too far...
When the engine noise barely drowns out cursing.

Well, they normally work and work well. I run them on the Twin Cam race car, the street Deluxe Coupe and the Jensen CV-8.

What often doesn't work very well is the handbrake......
