Turn Signals have stopped working

On Bugsy, my '68 Sprite turn signals have decided to stop working for some Lucas related issue. Emergency Flasher is working properly. Got Brake lights but no turn signals L or R. So guessing it's related to the feed from the Flasher Switch and it's one of the bullet connectors that has gotten some green on it. Which is the logical one to go for other than starting at the FLasher Switch which means pulling hte radio console out which is a PITA to do. Somehow power feed going to the turn signal switch?

I had 4 8,9,10, & 11 year old boys sitting in the car blowing the horn and pretending to be driving a few weeks ago. My best efforts I'm afraid to persuade them to be gentle to Bugsy may have gone unheard as they were yanking on the Turn Signal stalk and Window Wiper Stalk like there was no tomorrow. Thoughts?

Fun watching these guys enjoy Bugsy but not if they've managed to break him. Was happy to send the grandson and his buddies home after a few hours of wearing us out.

Key on, test light, check power at both sides of flasher unit (until flasher "clicks", power should be straight through). Then turn lever for L or R, recheck power. If the Green Gremlins are somewhere lurking, power will go away under load. If not, well, then it's dive into TS switch wiring, checking feed, making sure the emergency flasher switch hasn't died. We know the lights are all good, as the emergency works on all 4 corners.Brake lights are separate from TS lights on a 68, still, right? So ignore brake lights for now.
Bets are they damaged the TS switch or wires.

Flasher shows continuity when not under load and in a '68 a single flasher operates both Emergency Flashers as well as Turn Signals. Since I get continuous flashing when I flip on the Emergency Flashers I do not think it's the flasher unit which is only a couple of years old.

Ah. I couldn't remember. Odd, as usually e-flasher is off non-keyed power, TS off keyed power.

I do not have my manual with me, but are you 100% sure that there are not two separate flasher units?

That's where I was heading.....I don't have my diagrams nearby, but unless the TS work without the ignition, or the EFlashers work only with key on, man, the amount of poles in the switch....

There is only one flasher up there on the firewall right above the fuse box. Unless it is hidden somewhere I haven't run across in the past 10 years.

Is there not one under the dash as well. Which one is making noise when emer, flashers are working.

Finally found my schematic. Yup, one flasher. Emergency flasher switch, lead from ignition switch (dark green) goes to pin 8, output to TS switch is pin 7, Feeds the flasher (light green and red), then to the lamps. NOT a good diagram. So, check the emergency flasher switch, make sure ignition power feeds in and out of it.

I still believe there should be a separate flasher. Doesn't make any sense, but then, it's Lucas.

Thanks Kim, I'll pull the console out and validate I've got power there in the morning. It's just a PITA to take it out.

I had a '68 and here were definitely two flashers. One behind the console where the 4 way switch is, and another at the firewall.

4 way flasher commences w/ GAN4-60460/HAN9-72041 November 1967. Use diagram 3/pg NA-16.

Flasher is #25; 4 way flasher #154.

4 way is unswitched/ TS is switched.

The system will work w/o 4 way connected as long as power is supplied to turn signal circuit.

Power (green) is supplied to TS flasher (25) via pass-thru from 4 way flasher (154), so first thing to check is the power supply feed from 4 way to signal flasher. My guess is the bullet connector either separated or has corrosion. I suspect the former. It certainly could be downstream, but since both went out simultaneously, I'd look upstream first.

Question, finally back to trying to get turn signals working after 3 weeks of beautiful weather with Bugsy stuck in the garage with dash / steering column torn apart. Reassembling turn / wiper controls onto steering column. I placed all in the little detents and securely tightened with new screws. Now the whole assemby rotatates about a 1/4" either way. Is this normal, designed in to keep stalks from breaking off. I can see some little detents / stops on the steering column itself that look as if the whiole assembly is allowed to move just a little and give by design.

If this is the way it is supposed to be, glad to know. Otherwise how to tighten it up?

Still issue with signals not working and no power to signals on green? wire. Will need to pull radio console to get to the FLasher switch and flashers work just fine.

Still some great fall days that Bugsy needs to get out for and we missed 3 weeks of fabulous weather.

Found the answer, spare column does the same thing. Muse be a designed in thing.

Not sure about the bugeye but later spridgets run the turn signal power thru the flasher switch, sometimes flipping that switch thru a couple of cycles will re-establish a poor connection inside the switch.

Got power all the way to the connector block. Issue appears to be in the switch on the Green Wire. Might be able to clean up the solder joints on the wiring on the switch itself. Looks like there is corrosion in there. Switch < 10 years old. Will test tomorrow to bypass the swtch and see if I can get the signals to flash. That way I know I've isolated the problem.

One otherthing, Have a Brown with White stripe female coming out of the harness under the dash with nothing it appears to plug into it. Don't think I pulled anything apart when I oved the console out but I certainly can't find a missing male plug.

Could be a Red with a white. No clue Kim what connects to
it?
