Tucked in for the winter.

I just got back from the filling the Healey up at the service station and added some stabil to a full tank of gas. Guess the funs over till next year. I only logged 1600 miles this year but was down a couple weeks while rebuilding the transmision. All said it was a pretty good year, I didn't tear anything up or crash and put it away running fine and all intact.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a great New year.

Best Regards
Bob G

Side Shifter,

I did the work on my gearbox. It kept getting jammed between gears and it would grind going into second gear. The jamming problem was caused by the fact that who ever worked on it prior to 1974 had placed the detent balls in the wrong position. (Thanks To some detailed pictures from Randy Forbes I got that sorted out) As for the grinding issue I replaced a worn shifting fork ($40.00 Bill Bolton) And The 2nd gear syncronizer was actually either left out by the previous owner or never installed so i put one in from Victoria British ($40.) And while I had it apart I replaced the needel bearings on the layshaft. Actually the gearbox isn't to difficult to work on. Are you having trouble with yours? Check my previous post on this subject and see Randy's pictures. I live near Hickory NC and I could help you with it if you like.

Super Wrench,

Hey, I see by your profile we have a few things in common.
I too am from PA.( Now living in N.C.)
I also am a Maintenance Supervisor ( United Technologies Corp)
And we both drive tri-carb Austin Healey's

Bob

Bob, Yea tri-carbs are us. United Technologies is a great company ! I love the Carolinas and would like to retire down there some day, don't know if I could get the fiancee to leave the grand kids though. Quick

Sigh - a fiancee with grandchildren. There's something deeply philophical there. Mind you, the wife and I just drove 2000 km to see 76 year old Leonard Cohen in concert in Vancouver, and the show was well worth it.
Life is to be joyfully enjoyed!

"Suzanne brings you down, to her place beside the river..." Glad to know he's still performing, as I've not heard anything about him in years.

About ten (>10) years ago, I bouoght a CD that had "Suzanne" on it, but I can't listen to it while driving (even with the top/windows up) as he sings so softly

A month or so ago, I rented a(nother) garage space; a 2-car garage attatched to a plumbing contractor's office, just to put the Healey in. I'll also have room to stash a BMW in there, if an owner can't pick it up right away after I've finished working on it (a car going back to Seattle comes to mind...).

I've been living in Texas now since '98 (came down from northern Ohio), and still haven't gotten over the thrill of being able to enjoy classics year round. It may be darn hot in the summer here, but I just went to a fantastic Cars & Coffee Car Show on Dec 4th, and have been driving the Healey to work all week this week. Beautiful sun, just a bit chilly... perfect Healey weather.

This year will be the first year the wife and I will head out in the Healey to look at Christmas lights with the top down. A little chilly, sure, but a few layers and some hot chocolate will fix that. And once the Healey warms up, it's like having a wood burning stove next to your leg anyway  I'm really look forward to it!

This time of year is when Texas weather really works well

I'm with Bob, now is the time of year to drive my Healey without fear of
roasting alive from the infamous Healey heat ! Although the past few days
are even too cold for a Healey - 30's or so. But I know that will be gone
soon and back to perfect Healey weather, 50's or even warmer sometimes. I can
even leave my pusher fan off for now.
Regards,
Mike

My car ( and probably most others ) seems to run better when it's cool outside. I don't know if is actually running better or if it is just more comfortable driving conditions but I think a combination of both.
