Tubes in, Box out

I found a nice set of Jaguar 3" velocity tubes with built-in screens at XK Unlimited and mounted them up in place of the Cold Air Box. I also mounted a small drainable catch can to collect blowby vapor which used to be recirculated back into the CAB.

I don't know if this setup will really give the reputed couple more horsepower but they do allow much better access to the left side of the engine compartment. Plus they look great and produce a nice sucking sound when I get on the throttle.

The rule of thumb has always been, polished aluminum anything gives you 5%. Chrome is always 10% more power.
You knew that, right?

That's why you can buy Chrome Air Cleaners to replace stock, because of the 10% power increase...even if the Chrome unit is more restrictive than stock.

Those are great rules-of-thumb!

Add a 5% bonus if the aluminum has fins.

I was not aware of that rule--let me see if I can find some chrome stacks.

Just say'in.
I have finned aluminium heads on one of my vehicles...must give me an extra 100hp. Plus a Chrome air cleaner. Bonneville, watch out!

Boy that Offy heads brings back memories of my 52 Ford Crestline 2door hardtop with Mallory dual point ignition, Offy Heads and manifold with a 4 barrel carb and mild Isky cam. Also alas an automatic transmission. But still a sweet ride. Sold it for $150 which I used to buy an engagement ring for my girl friend, now wife of 49 years. Pretty darn good investment. Luckily I still have the Healey I courted her in.
