Hi everyone - still working through where the new TR4A stands. My valve cover looks a bit different than the Bentley manual and I can't find a diagram that shows what is supposed to actually be here.

Looks like some sort of breather tube, but on my car it isn't connected to anything. The tube just extends towards the front fender and remains open ended.

I've attached a picture and circled the tube. It is located in the center of the valve cover.

What do you all think?

I guess I would call that the P.V.C. system fresh air make-up hose. Intake manifold vacuum sucks air through the PCV out of the crankcase and into the intake air\fuel flow. The hose from the air cleaners to the valve cover allows clean air to replace the air sucked out of the crankcase. Clear as mud??

Is there any harm in the way it is currently hacked?

[/ QUOTE ]No, except possibly a bit of harm to the environment. OTOH, if your motor's putting enough oily smoke through that hose, there are those folks who consider that to be rustproofing if the hose is properly aimed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you are pushing a lot of oily smoke through that hose, you have a serious blow-by problem. Hope thats not the case.

Aim the hose at Michigan, and save all those American muscle cars from rusting!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

No oily smoke at this point - but once I'm done tuning it I'm sure there will be - LOL.

Sam - you have no idea how desperately I want a garage & driveway as big as yours.

Hi all, Most of the texts have refered to that mechanism as "the flame trap"... might be a clue! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks a lot, Sam!
How about saving some of the LBC's here from the same fate.

It's starting to scare me; from my work in the foreign parts buiss I remember the PCV valve to be known as a Gulp Valve & thanks to Google I see allot of other people are calling it the same thing.

I know, information overload, but isn't part of the fun of the internet...
