Tsunami Update

The Power of Mother Nature!!

We just had to go see this monster surf for ourselves. So
We hopped into the TR6 Old Car and attempted the coast
highway run-

Highway closed- surf over the road.
Pinones run closed - surf over the road.
Isla de Cabras - surf over the road but we
got thru and got to check on the tarpon boat- A-OK!
Breakers spewing water over our heads, seaweed everywhere.

A 27 foot high Wall of Water at offshore reef's edge!!
I've never seen anything like this in my life on the high
seas. Neither has the Weather Channel who reported 15 foot
high breakers across the San Juan harbour entrance.

Hundreds of Knuckleheads body surfing at dusk in 10-15'
beach waves. Idiots. Eerie with the harbour closed and
locked down to all ships.

An awesome fiesta throughout Islas de Cabras with many
hundreds come to watch the monster surf. BCF was properly
represented with a front row parking spot at Buoy No. 4
restaurant. Many thumbs up and admirers of my ragged, daily
driver red 69TR6.

WOW. What's causing all the surf? Tropical storm? sorry I'm outta the loop. (I'll probably go look at another thread now and answer my own question)

In my youth I would have been one of those idiots. I'm sorry to say Dale 10' swells were chop to this So. Cal boy LOL. This is where I would have drawn the line.

Paul- NOT swells but breakers; one after the other.
We also have surfer areas here on the island. This
is much different. I've fished 10' swells. Ten foot
breakers will swamp ya in a heartbeat and drown ya.

For those not aware. The movie "Perfect Storm" is based
upon an event here in Puerto Rico in 1991.

Our morning paper reports most of the coastal roads were
closed yesterday and remain closed today due to breakers
over the roadway. San Juan harbour remains under lockdown
until at least 6:00 PM this evening. The huge winter
storm continues but slightly lessened today. Sun is out today.

The tourist area Condado, where BCFer Banjo stayed, was
under 2 feet of water. Shortly after I took this photo below,
the Coast Guard measured breakers of 35 feet height at the
harbour entrance buoy.

I guess I'd better wash the salt of Amos.

Last night I watched PBS "Savage Seas". Story about how ocean waves can "pile up" and create 100 foot high walls of water.

On my first cruise in '69, the USS Bainbridge DLGN25 was in a storm off Hawaii. During the night a wave hit her from starboard and the ship rolled 55 degrees to port, taking green water into the number one engine room shutting down the nuclear reactor. The intakes for the engine room were on the 05 level, about 80' above the waterline. Some crewmen sustained minor injuries as they were tossed from their racks.

The guy sleeping on the top bunk on the left ended up on the deck next to the bottom bunk on the right.

The next morning, only 30 degree rolls.
