TSA - go figure

My eldest son flew into New Orleans yesterday from his home in Phoenix. Now, my son is an olive-skinned, full blooded Arab-American with a thick black beard and a dark head of bushy hair. They whisked him right through the check-in without any search or scan. Right behind him was an elderly, white grandma type with a walking cane. They did a complete frisk-down of the old gal.

Go figure.

One of the reasons why it's hard to figure why some folks are stopped and others not is TSA has randomness built into the system. If the enemy could see a pattern, they'd exploit it.

Thus, seemingly random searches.

Too bad AmTrak isn't viable . . .

Seems clear to me that the terrorists have won and they must be having a laugh over all this.

They had a guy similar to Bill's son's description screwwing with people on one of my flights. He had on that frock thing and was sitting in the waiting area to board the plane. As soon as it started boarding, he made SEVERAL phone calls. Speaking in Arabic very loudly, every other word was Allah. This is right around the time that it came out they were using cell phones right before attatcks.

Allota folks were spooked. I spoke with the stewardess and she said they were aware of the situation. I caught the eyes of some of the biggest guys on the plane and it was understood we were all on this dude.

I told Kelly we need to watch this guy well and if he sits right over the wing or in the tail, we may be in for trouble. Sure enough, he sits right over the wing. There were two other guys that looked suspitious that sat right in front of and right behind the wing as well. They made several trips to the bathroom. Right behind one another. I made it blantantly clear they were being watched. It was really spooky. I think it may have been a dry run security check.

My mother is half Lebanese, I have no problem with profiling.

They should not profile based on looks, remember the two European women last summer. What would work is profiling on actions. We know that suicide bombers are either not very good or not very practiced.

Sorry, this is one topic that irks me but its hard to explain why - but I see it as a costly operation that doesn't really make me feel safer. I just came back from visiting my family in northern Wisconsin. Very small airport, but yes, six TSA agents going through everything. And if you've been up in Wisconsin let me tell you its pretty easy to profile anyone who doesn't look like they are from 'up north'! I also wonder after wandering through the very large Minneapolis airport, with built in mall, just how they security screen every item you can buy there since by then you've already made it past the TSA screening stuff. Oh well.

I consider much of this nothing but ridiculous paranoia.

If you really want to worry, do some research on our government's lackadaisical attitude regarding the screening of "AIR CARGO". Airlines depend on revenue from carrying many tons of cargo (not luggage) on each passenger flight, yet very little is done (compared to our European friends) to assure the safety of the contents!

Only 2 or 3 years ago I was driving around the north side of O'Hare. The north cargo gates of O'Hare field were left open and unguarded. Anyone driving down the street could drive right in.

Probably went unnoticed by any potential trouble makers.

But it also points to the paranoia thinking, there were no planes lost because of it.

Do trouble makers read this forum?

As Pogo said, "We have met the enemy and they are us".

 Ha. A bit naive, don't you think, that there is something that we could possibly suggest here that hasn't already been considered, by evil persons at home an abroad.

Look to TelAviv for practical effective "screening" methods. Those folks have it figured out.

Yeah, sure, like the idiots in the media that "expose" weak links in nation security and defense. ~THAT~ what I call naive!!! ( That's also what I call treason.)

I find that comment amusing. I also find it is naive as it assumes EVERY evil person has considered EVERY possibilty and NONE of them are stupid enough to try it. All it takes in ONE clown who's stupid enough to try and idea he's not smart enough to think of.

Frank, nothing personal, ( and I do mean that) but it's guys who think like that who get caught with their pants down.

Me, I keep my belt tight! Vigilence is the key.

"Loose lips sink ships", rememebr that ?????

Now, I would say the chances of a forum member being a terrorist is EXTREMELY low, however; you never know who might wind up here searching for something else. I'm preeetty sure they have cars in the middle east.

I can name three instances where considering that fact there are bad stupid people out there has enabled me from having my girlfriend "attacked" and my wife kept safe from somoene who chased us home late one night.

Napoleon once stated, "Fate favors the prepared" and I'd have to agree.

Israel is about the size of Connecticut. And they screen everyone that wants to board a plane. And, you cannot travel to Israel from any other country in the Middle East, or vice versa.

Like comparing apples and oranges.

I guess this topic can get off course real quick.

.

If history does indeed repeat itself, you would think folks who get the hint after 6,000 years.

I mean, OVERNIGHT !!!!!

*POOF*, there they are again!!!

I'd have to say those folks might know a thing or two about dealing with enemies.

I aint ever met a Hittite, have you?

How 'bout a Philistine?

Ok we gotta lighten this one up Stat!
