Gordon, just to mention that body tooling was changed during TR3A production at car TS60000 and many aspects of your two cars are different. For instance on the later car you will notice that the scuttles, hood and trunk lids have raised hinge plinths. The earlier car's hinges sit flush. The panelling behind the seats is quite different too. These items are not readily interchangeable. Also modified were the trunk drainage channel, trunk lid bracing, internal shape of the doors, deletion of timber rails on top of the doors and behind the front scuttle.

In addition there were changes to the ring gear, starter motor and gearbox housing at car TS50000 which have to be assembled in matched sets.

Therefore you might consider rebuilding either your "early" or "late" car, as mixing and matching can bring many problems.

The good thing is that spare panels from one car can be readily sold to acquire the panels you need, or keep everything and rebuild both cars.

Welcome to the club. When I started my project I assumed I would only need to get ONE of everything. It took 5 generators to have enough parts to make a good one. I took apart at least 6 steering boxes and a dozen water pumps, 2 starters, 3 trunk lids, an extra set of doors, numerous fenders... So I would suggest you not throw anything away or dump any spares (including 'donor' cars) until you are perfectly sure you will not need them.

That TR3 looks great. What's wrong with letting it sit in the garage and just looking at it now and again? -no, go ahead and get it running and enjoy it the way it was intended.

My sister was visiting from Spokane this weekend. After I showed her the 'readers digest version slide show' of pictures of what I've done and where I've been, she looked at the project and kept asking 'tell me again, why are you doing this'. Some people don't get it. One day I'll take her for a ride in it. She probably still won't get it. You get it, and you are not alone. Enjoy it, wherever it takes you. Keep us posted.

Update: After sitting for nearly 32 years, TS23238 lives!

The starter was weak, so I brought it into a local shop a couple of weeks ago. A complete overhaul and some new Lucas brushes and it's as good as new, for only a hundred bucks.

My buddy and I put the starter back in today and gravity-fed some gas from a bottle. The engine turned over three or four times then started right up. Sounded pretty sweet to me! Called my Dad and left a voicemail of the engine running...

Obviously still a ways to go before she's roadworthy, but motivation is high after today. I expect we may do a couple laps around the back yard tomorrow, just because.
 
I thought you vin numbers looked good. My first TR3 was TS23575. And TS23351 was a donor body for TS 37148, that was rear ended.

Hi there, Gary! Went through the boxes today, just to get organized between the two cars. Found the commission plate and ignition key inside that coffee tin for TS69594L; nice surprise finding the mint-condition original license plates from 1961, inside a plastic sleeve no less! Don't worry about her, my Dad's car is keeping her company, and the plan now is to rebuild both cars.

Clutch and brakes not working yet, but still did a few laps around the back yard for fun with TS23238L today. Grass grows back...

Will start a new thread about how the car wouldn't run when the rad was installed...
