Trying to Remove Thermostat Cover

I'm having a hard time removing the thermostat cover on my 100-6. I've sprayed it with penetrating lubricant but it's on there pretty tight. Mounting bolts and washers are removed as is the radiator hose. When I removed the hose a bunch of white powder/dust came out of it and the end of the thermostat cover is partially disintegrated. Are new covers available? Looks like my entire cooling system is dry as a bone.

Oh, what weight and type of oil should I shoot into the water pump oiling screw hole?
 
hundredsixins,if you mean the "water outlet elbow", yes they are available, moss part number 021-346- about $19.00 and other venders have these as well. some people have used "permatex" to try and seal these, since its allready destroyed id just tap a sharp flat metal scaper in between the block and the aluminum elbow to release it.

There are at least two types of covers out there and the quality varies. I've heard that some corrode easier than others and there is a design detail that differs also. One type (which is considered higher quality) has a ring of extra material on the outlet end which helps keep the hose from blowing off. I think British Car Specialist has this type. Since they also carry Moss parts you might ask them about the quality differences.

Well yeah John, but you can forget about the quality difference and it might not even exist they fail shortly after installation. However, if you mix up some JB Weld and coat the inside of the new elbow with a smoothed layer, let it cure prior to instalation, it will last forever.--Fwiw--Keoke
