Just how in the heck to you get that White hard plastic seal out?
Is there something I can put on it,that will destroy the existing one, without
damaging the bore?
This,& the ignition switch problem has brought this project to a halt.

Doug, IIRC you have to destroy the seal - I think I drilled it carefully and broke it out. can someone confirm this?

A friend just bought a new MC for a MGB for not much more than the price of a kit. I think Rock Auto.

I've rebuilt quite a few of these, and I've only had one where that spacer was able to be removed without damage. So yes, typically, if must be destroyed in the process of removal. They way I have done it is to drill two pilot holes, 180 degrees apart, and the ge a long screw started in each to attempt to draw it out. The trouble is, it's a pretty close fit, and even the slightest amount of rust will prevent it from coming out, so sometimes it must be broken into pieces. Chances are, you damage the bore or the surface of the piston that extends out the front of the bore. BOTH are critical surfaces. If the forward part of the piston is blemished in any way (scratched, pitted, gouges, etc) then you are already dead in the water, Unless that surface has a mirror polish, it will leak.

I've rebuilt 3 of them and don't remember having any trouble. I'm sure I blew them out with compressed air.

Kurt.
