Wedge TRy to figure this TR7 out

It's probably limited production because this guy built only one in his garage.
All factory V-8 wedge convertibles, to my knowledge, were 8's.
 
That is exactly the web page I was looking at, I would guess it is an 8, with a older 7 hood on it. Only V8 TR7's I ever heard of were pre productions from 1978 i beleive. Ted from TSI would know for sure. He has some of teh best record on TR8's. When I bought mine he was able to tell me from my VIN the previous two owners and where they lived cause he had sold tehm parts. I may go look at this next week since it is not too far from me
 
I am 99% sure that it is a real TR8 and not a home built. 1980 TR8 serial numbers for the most part start TPVDV8. It is one of the four proper colors, it has the charcoal canisters mounted where the battery would go on a 7, it has a TR8 booster, and a ton of other stock TR8 stuff. It probably got smacked in the nose and all that was around was an early hood. The double bulge hoods have not been available for a long time, but you could get new single bulge hoods. Word to the wise about cars that sat for a long time. They are alot harder to bring back and cost alot more to do so than one would expect. I am nearing the end of a resto on a TR8 that only has 28,000 miles and has been off the road since 86. Next time I'll buy a high mileage car that was owned by an enthusiast.
 
You would think the Title would say TR8 at least... kind of a warning he may not have teh title or it is titled incorrectly.

That is a great point Todd. My 8 was a garage queen when I bought it and I ended up spending at least $2000 more bringing it back than if I had bought the high mile DHC sitting next to it. I have decided that I am simply going to get a 7 DHC, drop the drive line and put mine in. My 8 FHC has been fun but it has come time for a major restoration and if I am going to spend that kind of money I will go with the DHC. I run my 8 every day from March thru November, I am approaching 40,000 miles on it in the 6 years I have owned it.
 
do people move vin's from one body shell to another? that way they could update an older fhc body to a "pre-production tr8"?

so i could take all the parts off my tr8 parts car, move them over to my fhc (including the vin plates) and end up with one of those like the one on ebay?
 
I agree, the engine room has all the telltales of a TR8 and I suspect it is. However, he's done the typical Holley/Edelbrock carb conversion and somehow he fit the works under a non-doublebulge hood. I've got the same setup with the lowest profile carb/filter setup I could come up with and it still scuffs the underside of my double bulge hood. Where did he gain 1 1/2" of clearance?

I wondered about that, as well. Can't tell from the picture which set he has. Wonder if that's an Offy manifold... Isn't it a bit lower than the Edelbrock? And I think the Edelbrock carb is not quite as tall as the Holley. Maybe just enough room.
