Speaking of the mail, went to the post office here yesterday to get some stamps. Up ahead was a young guy who was telling the clerk that he had been sent by his boss to get a roll of stamps. When handed the roll he said, "What is this, I need a roll" When told it was a roll of stamps he replies that he'd never actually seen stamps before other than on some delivered items and never knew what they looked like. What's that say for the future of the hand delivered mail??....

What does that say for the future of the younger generation where normal everyday practical issues are being lost to cell phone dependency? :rolleyes2:

This is so true, I absolutely suck at harnessing buggies, starting fires with sticks and don't even get me started on my lassoing skills. :ROFLMAO:

Seriously though, shortly before Covid a few of us were in a pub and the waitress got talking about having to go to do something legal at the Post Office - first she had to find out where it even was. She then got talking about her boss sending her for stamps - and she bought 25 cent stamps because she had no idea what to buy and figured adding up things in 25 cent increments made sense. But the most hilarious part was her asking her boss why she wrote letters still - the boss's answer, 'they are more personal'. Her response 'my emails come right to my inbox, what's more personal than that?'

I just sent Christmas cards but that is literally the only personal mail I send in a year. And ever there my wife sends a bunch of Jackie Lawson ecards for people overseas and those whose addresses we don't have. Even my 92 year old mother uses email not mail any longer.

As many know we moved in September and paid for mail forwarding for a year (BTW it took two months to sort out thanks to the 🤬🤬 Post Office) but in that time, as we are keeping track we haven't had any more than about 15 pieces of addressed mail and probably 1/3 of that is junk mail.

There are aspects of the demise of hand delivered mail that I will miss, but, as I reflect on it, not as much as I thought I would.

Well, I don't get or send lots of mail, but I do still pay bills that way. Reason is, I know when it was paid and have a more direct knowledge of how much is going where rather than those auto debit when the bill is generated. Plus, keeps less information in places where the increasingly aggressive hackers can find something to use to hit my accounts. It may not be perfect and may require more time, but if it stops my money from disappearing, worth it.

As far as the USPS - What other business will deliver to your house

Never get behind me in line at the Post Office-
If there are two (or more) clerks waiting on people,
there will almost always be a long drawn out problem
at both/all of them.

I have the same problem at the movie theater - whatever line I get into just for popcorn and a drink I will invariably have someone in front of me seemingly doing their weeks worth of grocery shopping at the concession stand while my film is already starting.....

Staying on topic - I did have to actually have to explain to a post office manager one day that I would be calling the police and filing a complaint of false imprisonment against them. I had something I needed to send 2 day mail so I got one of the carboard mailers and got in line to pay for the mailer and postage - 45 minutes later I'm at risk of being late for work and the line hasn't moved so I ask if I can come back later only to be told I'd be arrested for shoplifting if I didn't pay for the cardboard mailer. but they wouldn't let me just give them money - you can only pay at the one open register and I'm now looking at the potential for getting fired if I don't get out of there now. So I told the manager that they either had to give me some way to leave the building or I was calling the police and telling them I'm being held against my will. They agreed to let me remove my paperwork from the cardboard envelope and write it off as damaged...

Speaking of post office, I’m standing line to pick up a package (I suspect a bike we ordered for granddaughter). Been here over an hour. When I started there were 19 people ahead of me. At present there are 6! Light at the end of the tunnel

Don't say that out loud, or they will start to charge us. Then again, Amazon delivers seven days a week.

We've gotten to know our letter carrier pretty well. He's concerned about carriers being held up at gunpoint and having their mail and lockbox keys stolen. When I have to send a check, I go to the Post Office and use the inside slot rather than leave it in the mailbox for the carrier to pick up.

I was in a training session with our national club, where they were encouraging our members to pay dues online. I commented that not everyone would do that, that their technology level was the same as their cars (I was thinking of a 1953 Austin-Healey). I received the reply "Do they only have two fuses?. I replied "No, only one, and it would blow."

Just be thankful I wasn't ahead of you.

One day,I was in line at the post office. There were two clerks working,
and a customer at each counter. The first was a lady having problems getting
a package,& at the other was a guy I refer to as "Columbo",who wanted to
visit with the clerk. Then he asked about different rates on a package he was
mailing, then he said he needed stamps, then said "What stamps do you have?"
The clerk showed him the different ones.I can't remember what he asked
for after that.I was waiting for him to say "Just one more thing...."

I take my stuff to the local post office and deposit inside as well to avoid the potential theft from outside boxes. They just did a story here last night on the news of a mail carrier arrested. Seems he'd made copies of his keys and sold them. They got him because he was also stealing things and tried to cash a check he'd altered to put his name on it.

Can’t be all bad; I had to order a circuit board for our washing machine from an ebay seller in Florida and the tracking had predicted it’s arrival tomorrow but now it is our for delivery today (a day early). As anyone with kids knows a day makes a huge difference in the amount of laundry that builds up so I’m quite pleased. I just hope it works!

Agreed. Our old house closed at the end of July - it took until two weeks ago to sort out the address change. 🤬
