TR5/TR250 Trunnion Installation

OK, recently I refreshed the front suspension on my new to me 250. I installed the trunnions by screwing them all the way up then backing off until they were positioned correctly, this was about a 1/4 rotation back down. I looked under the car and noticed the seal had split, did I screw the trunnions on to far, should I back them off a full rotation?

Secondly, I did not know about the change from grease to 90wt oil, I used grease. Are there any opinions on using grease vs oil?
 
Sounds like you did it right. Do you have full movement from lock to lock when turning the wheel? Not sure why the seal would split...

I think the problem with grease is it tends to hold any grit that might get in there and accelerates wear.

Earlier cars (like mine) did use grease in the trunnions. Seems to work just fine. Oil might have an advantage, but it doesn't seem like much.

My guess is just a defective seal. I've not had that particular problem, but some of the other seals have just fallen apart after only a few months of service. I think the Chinese are recycling old condoms or something.
