Gents, I am finally getting my suspension back together, with a lot of help from this forum, and I've hit a snag. I can't get the trunnion assembly back together. Its a very tight fit between the lower A-arms. Always dropping one piece or another. Hard to believe it does fit, actually. Anyone have tips or tricks? I really want to finish this today. Thanks.
 
Are you doing it on the car? If you take the lower wishbones off the car (complete with brackets) the job can be done with the trunnion bolt hole vertical, so gravity is on your side. That's how I did it, and as I was doign it I wondered how it could possibly be done with the wishbones on the car (as per the workshop manual). I am assuming you mean a TR6 (or similar). It is probably possible to do it with the wishbones in place - maybe a dab of grease here and there to hold things in place?
 
Sorry, yes it is a TR6. Had the entire suspension apart, but bolted the arms and brackets to frame first. Pan is also attached already. Sure don't want to have to crawl back under to remove those bracket bolts again.

how to accomplish the task at hand. I recently rebuilt
my front end.

PS: NO!! You don't want to mess with the coil spring
and pan again!!

Unbolt the lower spring pan and loosen the lower brackets. There are so many washers, bushings that need to line up it is much easier to drive that long screw thru the whole deal when it is loose.

to get lined up just perfect.

if you have the bottom pan on already try loosening the bolts a little and maybe it will slide in, no pun intended

Thanks everyone. I did have to take one side of the spring pan off. That make it flex a little, enough to get the parts together. Of course I thought of this before I put the spring pan on when I did the other side.
Dale, can't tell you what a big help your tutorial was in doing this project. I printed it out and kept it beside me in the garage for easy reference. I recommend everyone do this.

One final suggestion. I'm guessing your car is streetable.

Please remember, I know almost zilch of things auto
mechanical, so this final step might be plain stupid
but I did it anyway. I'm a Rookie!!!

After you have completed your front end, go drive the car
slowly thru a neighborhood with many speed bumps. Put
like 5 miles on odorometer.

Park it back in the Crypt.

Chock the rear wheels, hand break on, jack the front end
up (one side at a time) removed one wheel and lower the
car so the brake drum it is resting on a concrete block
with wood.. Stick a jack stand under there, close but not
touching the frame.

Now- with Bentley in hand- carefully retorque every fastener
you can get your torque wrench onto.

Do the same for the other side.

BUT HEY! you Say!! Might be overkill.

Might be?? I ain't a wrench.

But I DID have a rear wheel seperate off the SIX, at speed,
from the DPO previous owner's truly sloppy, cut-corners suspension work.

Post a coupla fotos, dude!!
Paint something red or yellow fer me.

Not overkill at all Dale. Just premature IMHO.

I'd just drive it 40-50 miles and then do exactly what Dale said. Actually, I did just that many months ago and I'll be double checking again at 600 miles.

After that, I figure that I'm home free.........a bit paranoid up front, but home free.
