Is there any way to disassemble this without destroying it? I want to clean and lube the lock and powdercoat the latch mechanism.

It's off a 74 1/2 Tr6. The plate has stamped rivets where the screws are and the shaft for the release is stamped.

Any idea what i could use to replace the rivits in the plate if i drilled them? Thanks

Check with a Model A parts supplier like "Brattons". Model A places seem to have a lot of rivets, as well as faux rivets. I do this on occasion to repair something. They also usually have the tools to spread the rivets available, and usually fairly cheap as well. Just be sure that they actually have something you can use before drilling...

i ended up using drilling one side out and used an aluminum pop rivet to replace it and grinding the back of it and hammering it flat after that, not like original but pretty satisfied!!!

also coated the seat tracks while i was at it.

Looks nice - latch and seat track still slide OK after being powder coated? I've found that powered coating can change the dimensions of the parts...

Tom, PC'd my tracks. If they ever get in the car after 12 years I'll let you know

Dude=- Show us what ones you removed and changed

Sorry sorry here we go!!

<span style="font-weight: bold">Black circle </span>is the original rivet

I drilled the one on the left and then twisted the plate open towards the <span style="color: #3333FF">Blue arrow</span> that gave me access to the screws for the lock.

Then used a 1/8 inch aluminum pop rivet (<span style="color: #FF0000">Red cirle</span>) to reattach, then hammered it flat and dressed it off with a dremel tool.

The seat traks have no more tension sliding them by hand than before coating them. they are actually a little better with all the rust gone.
