Trunk Lock and the Patience of Job

Well, I am still waiting to receive the TR6 I've bought. I am being remarkably patient. It is due to come down from Santa Barbara "anytime". The wait is driving me crazy, but it's amazing how much time you can spend (waste?) just poring over photos and checking Moss, VB, TRF, and Ebay for the bits and pieces you think you see are missing or need replacing /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

One piece of information I have is that the PO has lost the key to the trunk, and the truck is shut and locked.

How easy is it to open the trunk of a TR6 without a key?
 
If you want to salvage the lock, spend the money now and call a locksmith. Do you have AAA? They may cover the repair under emergency raod service for lock outs.

I would look inside that trunk right away when you get the car, to insure that there are no surprises or hidden damage to be found later.
 
I have a photo of the interior of the trunk, and it looks OK.

I don't mind changing the lock, as I need to buy new locks for the doors anyway. I do have AAA.

My hope was that access from the passenger compartment past the side of the fuel tank, might allow the lock to be opened?
 
I have never had a trunk key for any of my 6's. Oops, the secret's out. But if it is the same as the TR3, it would be the same key as the glovebox. You can get the lock number from there and be back in business.
Anybody correct me if I am wrong.
I wouldn't bother replacing door locks unless the existing ones are gone or beyond restoring. If you lock a convertible, the thieves will just cut the top.
I don't think you will have any success getting past the gas tank.
 
I believe that you would be correct, so long as some Pedro didn't come along and change one and not the other.

This car has a slightly odd story, which I will post about when I finally get my grubby hands on it. I strongly suspect he doesn't have the glovebox key either. But he *does* have the ignition key.

There are no door locks on the car: they have been removed.

They aren't much good on a soft top equipped TR6 anyway. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
 
I think you'll need a locksmith. Just looking at mine, I don't see any way you can open it from the inside no matter how much access you have past the gas tank.

Now, now,Paul!!

Yes it's true DPO Pedro had no door or trunk keys.
He did have an ignition key but he had to be honest with
me and told me up front the ignition switch was buggered
up a bit and might need replacing.

In my 1969 TR6 you cannot get to the trunk lock assembly
from the cockpit, over or around the gas tank.

If you take the glovebox lock off and to a locksmith. He should be able to cut a key for you. If the lock in either the trunk or the glovebox has not been replaced, you are in business.
 
That's why I would check that trunk as soon as I got the car.

The trunk lid was detached, as was the hood. He took photos, sent them me, then I travelled up to see the car, by which time he had reattached the hood and trunk lid, and made the mistake of shutting the lid before checking he had the key.
