I tried loosening the bolts and adjusting... no luck. Should I just add a few washers between the screws and lid to raise the lid height? Maybe I'm missing something.

I wonder if your hinges or I should say the mounting tabs on the hinges are tweaked a bit. To get my trunk prop to go in the the slot (MKII Sprite) I have to push up on the trunk a bit..and the trunk doesn't align well. I think that is what happened to mine anyway..
Does the rest of the lid align OK?

The back/bottom edge sits a little high due to new gasket rubber. The rest of the gaps look good-- until I try to open the trunk and the top edge seems to just pivot forward instead of going up and then forward.

If it's a new gasket from M___ it will fit too high. Gaskets are improperly sized to fit correctly IMHO. I replaced mine on Bugsy my '68 and trunk does not close properly after replacement. Worked fine with old leaky gasket.

i think that's exactly what's going on at the bottom edge. geez. will that also cause the scraping at the top?
