trunion/vertical link seal

I know I have read on here before that some of you had a problem with the seal between the vertical link and the trunion. I can't find it now that I need it.

I just rebuilt the front end of my TR4 frame and the seal is too thin. Do I need to order the seal for a TR4a or TR6? Was there a home made fix someone had?

I think you wound up with an earlier version TR3/4 seal, for the trunion with 0 degress castor - its thinner. The thin seal came in the rebuild kit I bought from TRF even though I ordered it for a late model TR4, so you may have had the same problem. I ordered the later style seal from Moss, PN 520-220 (same as TR6) and it worked fine.

If that's the case, be aware that the thrust washers supplied by TRF might be thin - when I mated up everything to the trunnions the castle nuts were on so far that the cotter pin wasn't locking them. I miked the supplied ones and compared them to the old worn ones - the old ones were thicker. Bought replacements from Moss and their versions are thicker and more in line with original. Not trying to bash TRF, I still like them, but thought you'd want to know before you put everything together.

I know I'm due for a report back to the gang here but I unfortunately haven't been doing much on the Triumph front. Just the occassional car spotting. That should change though, I joined TR-Register last week and plan on going to the Stoneleigh TR swap meet in Feb. Revington is a must visit, but I need to save my pennies for several of the goodies there (dual M/C, rear disk brakes, etc).
