This is a true story about my Grandfather
When car phones were just becoming popular (about 1981) My Grandmother called my Grandfather on his new car phone.
She said , "Ray, be careful on the highway as someone is going the wrong way on the 401 (local freeway)."
His answer was "Jean, there's not one, there's a hundred!"
This was followed by about 30 seconds silence, then "My God, it's me!"

Several years ago my wife and I visited her elderly Father in Fort Myers Beach, FL, USA. He picked us up at the Orlando Air Port and tried to drive us to his condo - talking non-stop all the way.

Jackie and I kept trying to get his attention about his serious driving danger , but he refused to wear his hearing aids so he didn't hear us.

Suddendly, we came upon a road block by a FL State Sheriff's dept.

My father-in-law stopped and said, "What the H*ll are these idiots doing!!!"

In that only moment of silence by him, we yelled, "Dad, you are driving the wrong way on the expressway!!!"

They allowed him to turn around and drive back in the correct direction and removed the road block.

We Thanked God we survived and NEVER went back to FL again.

I have worse stories about my own Father's driving in his 90's.

I see my own future in those stories.
 
That IS a very real danger down here!!!! I have seen it happen at least three times in the 20 years I have lived down here!!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif
 
I'm always very cautious around the ferry terminals in France, and nearby... the disembarking British drivers sometimes forget they (er, I?) should be driving on the wrong side of the road....
 
My first day driving while stationed in Japan. I bought a Fairlady Z from a friend of mine, and drove around base without incident, but the first time out on the road, using the wrong arm to shift, going down the wrong side of the road, I was suddenly face to face with a huge Hino truck head on.

I practiced a bit more before heading out on the highway again.
