TR6 Trouble with TR6, carb now???

I have a TR6 I inherited from my father, he was going to have a huge engine installed but died in the middle of it. The shop kept all his money and I paid them 500 to put back in old engine.
It drove fine at first but seemed to lose power. Then sat for a few months. I cranked and gas spewed out the bottom of the carbs. After reading the forums I took off carbs thoroughly cleaned replaced o-ring plugs all new seals. They were full of an orange/reddish sediment.
After I hooked everything back up.
It cranked up, no leak, but now there was no power I would give it gas and nothing. Just no power.
Any ideas?
I'm afraid the shop that put the engine back in could have really screwed up the car.

Maybe not. Check the rubber diaphams in carbs first. To do, remove four screws on top of each carb dome , lift off and you will see spring and rubber bellows. Check the diapham for any tears or holes. Replace and try again.

Did you put oil in the dashpots? Change the fuel filter?

BTW, most of the books are either misleading or flat-out wrong about how to set the ignition timing. The 4 ATDC timing number applies only if the vacuum retard is present and functional. If you aren't certain if it works, just disconnect it and set the timing to 10 or 12 BTDC.

Sediment in the carbs sounds like a rusty tank, nothing the shop did. The crud can block the fuel flow and the car wont run. Usually the harder or faster you run the engine the worse the problem gets. Many options for a fix. Cheapest is to drain the tank, put a handfull of rocks or nuts and bolts in it and shake it (a lot, if you have teenage sons put their youthful energy to work). You then have to get all the rocks or whatever out, which involves more shaking and turning. I rinsed mine with water after, though I am sure there are better things to use, and dried it in the sun, more turning to get the water out. Or you can get a sealer kit and do basically the same thing, plus add sealer at the end, which may or may not work (you can read all about gas tank sealers online, doesnt have to be TR6, a gas tank is a gas tank).

Or get a new tank.

I am assuming this is your problem, no guarantees it is your only problem, but hard to get a car to run right with a lot of crud in the system, and once it starts it usually continues unless measures are taken.
