trouble shooting not working speedo or testing one

The problem I see is that, with a 1500 speedo and a Mk III gearbox, there may not be a standard cable combination that will fit. Hopefully someone with more Spitfire experience will know better, but it appears that the easiest way forward might be to source a Mk III speedo to go with your Mk III gearbox.

oh that is an idea TR3Driver if I cant get a suitable cable then get the speedo pinion, cable and new speedo also then I know it should all work.

Do I have to worry about the speedo not reading the correct milage? (never changed out a speedo before)

Think I need a new repair manual also. Just did some checking on Victoriabritish.com and the speedo pinion on their is for 62 to 74 so I might have the correct pinion on my car.

So with that said I think I am going to start with ordering a new speedometer cable from Victoriabritish.com and make sure I have an OEM replacement cable and not a universal cable and see what happens then. If that doesnt work I guess I will have to work back wards and go to the speedo pinion next
