Trouble getting flywheel ring gear on.

The "V-notch test" they refer to in the temper embrittlement section is called a Charpy test, BTW.

I jst did a real liight and fine mist from a hand sprayer while moving so it barly got anything. According to some smiths around here, it should have been enought to just harden the surface but not embrittle the teeth through. A few sections of it were red, not real red but they did indeed have glowing color. It wasn't in open fire, it was down in the coals.

No amount of water is going to make any difference. When you set the ring on that frozen flywheel, if caused a very harsh temp drop.

Well, when you think about it, it's not that big of a drop from a frozen wheel compared to an unfrozen one. That day we're only talking 30* b/w the two different wheel states.
