Triumph used car lot

Well, it is official. The neighbors call my house the Triumph used car lot.

I went last night to get the GT6 out of storage. It has been in storage for about 2.5 years. When the guy came to see how we planned to take the car home my son told him we were going to drive it home. He laughed and said OK with a lot of skepticism in his voice. We rolled it out, put in a battery and cranked from about 30 seconds and the car started. Lots of smoke because of the oils I used in it before putting it away but it started. Filled the tires and drove it home.

That is when the neighbors came over and wanted to know how many more little cars will be showing up. We now have 3. The GT6, Spitfire and a Herald.

Of course one is always in some state of repair.

I will say my wife is a good sport.

I don't think I could have a GT6 and a Spitfire at the same time... I'd be too tempted to make a Spit6 out of the 2.

Well done! You can't have too many Triumphs!

I've got 7. All are hiding. Drive by my house and you'd think I was a Ford guy into 4X4 trucks and Jeeps... My nice cars live inside for now, parts cars behind a fence. I feel like an elitist when I hit my garage door opener and park the Staaaaag inside. Now bcliff's house is another story.(couple miles away) 2 Riley Elf's (right hand drive), an early Mini, and 2 B's. There is a lowly Nissan joining them all in the driveway. Very blatant. I'm jealous, I want a GT6.

i have 4 (including the parts car) and my brother's MGB at my house.

Back in the late 70's when I got my TR3 and the parts car for it, they were selling these Russian cars here in Canada that were exact copies of Fiats but not nearly as reliable. I ended up with one and I had to buy a spare! In fact they were so cheap on the used car market I treated them as "disposable". I digress, the upshot was my parents drive at the time had two dismantled Triumphs and two Russian Ladas (one of which was a doner to keep the driver on the road). We had no garage so all this was in plain sight. Apperently I was (not so) affectinalty called the Rusian wrecker by the adults on the street.

Now that I have kids the same age I was back then, I can see what saints my parents were.

I have been referred to as The One With All Them Dopey Little Cars.

I love it! I have a British used car lot myself (Land Rover, 3 Triumphs, an MG and a giant Union Jack hanging from the ceiling in my garage).

The awkward thing about my arrangement is that I live on a corner lot between two hardcore, Prius-driving environmental activists. They're friendly to me, but I can almost feel the disdain as they drive by.

I'm working on a trade to let the MG go and pick up a Jaguar XJS. I'm sure firing up that V12 isn't going to score me any neighborly points!

PS: No offense intended to anyone's political affiliation...;)

I feel better as I only have 3 in the garage right now (2 TR4s, 1 TR3A). My record a couple of months ago was 4. I sold off a pair of rusty TR3As, and wound up helping get the last one on the trailer the buyer brought. Unfortunately the only time he could come over was about 8 am on a Sunday. I can still feel the stares of my neighbors as they drove by that morning!
