Since my last post, new information. When I turn over my starter, 1980 TR7, it cranks an extra second or two after I release the key. Do you think this is a starter that needs replacement, or starter relay, or i /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gifgnition switch?
 
If you have a volt meter you should be able to tell if the ign. switch or start relay are slow to release. If you don't have a meter I would guess you could feel if the ign switch is slow to relax, so I would think the problem is at the start relay.
 
starter on my '76 tr7 would sometimes crank for about 10 full seconds after releasing the key. and continue even after turning ignition off. i tried the starter relay swap to no effect. so i replaced it with my rebuilt spare. i now have two spares in need of rebuild, so if anyone needs one will give for price of shipping or come and get it. i'm in eugene oregon.
 
Thanks..the switch does not seem to be slow in release, so I am hopeful that it is the relay. I will try that. JOHN
