Post-War Other Triumph Herald Import Numbers

Does anyone know how many Triumph Heralds were imported into the US? I grew up near the Triumph factory in Coventry and learned to drive in a Herald. I was surprised to learn recently that a number of Heralds were sold in the US (where I have lived for the last 30 years). Any idea how many Heralds made it over here?

Thanks for any light you can shed...Stephen

Ah the power of the Herald...Or lack there of.
Welcome to the forum!
If you see any on the Herald reg. from Utah, They came from me searching hi and low...Go figure, they didnt work too well in the heat or the Mountains.
I can rattle Andy's chain if needed?
Have fun

Sorry I'm late, Stephen (and others)! :smile:

From VTR's web site (information courtesy yours truly and from various other sources):

Original U.S. prices (POE East Coast) and U.S. sales figures (from Robson's Triumph Herald and Vitesse) were as follows:

* Herald 948cc Saloon ($1849) -- 3,612
* Coupé ($2149) -- 1,049
* Convertible ($2229) -- 2,822
* Herald/Sports 1200 Saloon ($1699) -- 4,609
* Convertible ($1949) -- 11,654
* Sports 6 Convertible ($2499) -- 679

Total (not counting the Sports 6): around 23,746

Convertibles often outsold saloons in the US by as much as 6:1, no doubt due to the marketing by S-T USA and the dealers, all of whom were rather more intent on moving TRs and Spitfires

Be that as it may, though, the nearly 24,000 total isn't all that bad, really. From what I've been able to determine, the near cult-like status of the original Mini in the US was never backed up by sales figures when new. I've read that only around 10,000 Minis were sold in the US between 1960-67 (note that Canada is not included; Minis were sold well into the 1970s there).
