I'm looking for a set of Main bearings for a 66 3000. They need to be 50 thousands undersize. Can you get these or is the crank scrap. This is for an engine that only had 2000 miles on it. One of the thrust washers delaminated and went right into the crank and tore apart the bearings and journals.
 
I'm pretty sure that .040" undersize is as far as they're commercially available. I am not aware of how you'd go about having a set of undersize bearings made, but "boyracer" on here may have some info on the subject.

Honestly, getting your hands on another crankshaft sounds a lot easier, and an awfully lot cheaper.
 
I'd look for another crankshaft also. It might not be prudent to turn the crank down that far. Good luck , that kind of sucks. It shouldn't be too hard to find a good crank for this engine , I think all 3000s used the same one but I'm not positive. Kevin

60 undersize I don't think is a good idea. 50 I think is pushing it. Thanks for the information.
 
I have ACL rod and main bearings for sale, but only .010 and .020. I have some questions. First question: I have never heard of a thrust washer delaminate - so what makes you think it was the thrust washer coming apart rather than metal from another source circulating in your oil system? Second question - did your engine builder tell you that you need .050 bearings before or after he ground the crank? Third question - how many journals are so bad that you would have to grind to a .050 depth? Last question - who rebuilt your engine that only has 2000 miles on it before it destroyed itself. Hopefully, not the same person that is telling you you need .050 bearings.
