Triumph dashes

I veneer dashes after retiring from custom woodworking business after 40+ years and looking for someone that needs a dash redone at no charge. I need it to get a pattern and will give it back unharmed along with a new one. I asked others and got no takers. Antone out there?

gaston,

Sounds like a great offer. I wish I hadn't redone my dash last year or I would do it in a heartbeat. What kind of finishes are you going to offer.

Right now I build ones for Sunbeams and Studebakers. I offer different hole sizes and a large assortment of real veneers on baltic birch euro-plywood. They range from Walnut burl, Birdseye maple, oak, curly maple, flat cut walnut, mahogony, and a assortment of brushed, ribbed, and tread aluminum for that racing thing. I also have brushed stainless.

Actually any model. As I said before, I have templates for all Sunbeams and all Studebakers, but I want to start making them for Triumphs and MGs. There isn't a wood dash that I cannot do. I am just expanding my templates. I would be willing to build any dash just as long as it is a model that I could sell in the future. I am retired and I am doing this as a working hobby. I have done many before over the last 40+ years, but I never thought of saving a template. Do you have something that I would be interested in?

Give me your address and I'm in. I have one for a TR6 that I would like redone. You can PM me or send me an email. Thanks Ab PS can I pick the veneer?

I am kind of new at this and trust me, I build dashes better than computering, If you can, call me at 304-374-0750. That is my cingular cell.

[/ QUOTE ]Not for me, but I have an acquaintance who was asking me about some reveneering and/or refinishing work on a Sports 6, for which the dash is esentially the same as that of a Herald 1200. He's also looking for similar work on the door cappings on the same car. Is that something you might be interested in doing? Admittedly, it's a rather smaller potential market than TR4-TR6 or even later Spitfire models, but there still might be potential.

Let me know either here (or privately, with an e-mail address), and thanks in advance!

gaston, i am interested in having you give me a hand if at all possible. i have a tr6 dash that i am redoing and i would be happy to send it to you for getting a pattern, my problem is the lacquering. i am trying to get a nice smooth finish. if you are interested send me your email.
thanks
Randy

I would be glad to help you out with the lacquer. Can you send me a pic of what you got. I can lacquer it for you using a furniture grade catalized finish that will not crack or peel. The gloss is so thick, you could comb your hair in it. My e-mail address is gaston_blanc@comcast.net

Shannon, I live in Weirton. It is above Wheeling. Weirton is right across the river from Stubenville Ohio, home of Dean Martin and Jimmy the Greek. As a matter of fact as I live in West Virginia, if I look to my left out my back window, I can see Ohio. If I turn to my right and look out my front window, I see Pennsylvania. I am only 25 minutes from Pittsburgh (home of the great Steelers!!!!)Bluefield is on the complete opposite of the state and as they say, if you flatten out West Virginia, It would be the largest state in the USA!

Hi Gaston,

I've got a brand new teak TR4A dash that I could let you use as a pattern. It's a beautiful piece of work, but I'd be happier with a darker wood and a glossier finish (mine is a matt finish) Let me know if you could use it.

I would be glad to help you out if we can get down thru the finish that you have. Do you know what the finish is(lacquer, oil, poly, ect)If I can strip it or sand it off, I could dye the wood darker and high gloss it for you.If it cannot be stripped, at least I can definately put a very high gloss finish on it. I would like to use it as a pattern. What years does that dash cover? Can you call me at 304-374-0750.

Sorry, busy day at work and can't make outside calls from the office.

First, the dash will fit '65 through '68 TR4A and probably fit '61 through '65 TR4 with small modifications to the steel dash (remove glove box door, etc)

As for the finish on the dash, it's been treated with an oil (tung oil?) that solidifies once applied. I tried a test spot on the back with a darker stain, and it didn't faze it one bit!
