My trip odo cable broke on my original speedo, and a friend gave me a broken speedo that he wasn't using, which has a good cable on it. Question: How do I get the trip odo cable off both speedos? I've turned, pulled, and pushed on them and neither want to come off.
 
Webb, I think there is a small pin on the gauge side on the stem. Wayne
 
It's been a while since I've opened a speedo with the cable reset. Look carefully along the length of the cable for a roll pin that has to be removed. Like I said, it's been years since I've opened this type of speedo up. It might be that the pin/release is inside the speedometer. Have you opened one of these up before? If not, take the time to download the following document and print it out:

What do you mean "the gauge side"? As in under where the rubber flares on the cable, or actually inside the speedo unit?

This particular speedo is broken anyway, so I'm not going to be to sad if I hurt it.
 
Again, it's been years since I've worked on a cable reset odometer unit. If there is a boot on the side of the speedo, the roll pin you're looking for will likely be under that boot on the outside of the gauge. The Spridget speedos I've worked on recently have had a solid shaft for the reset and the roll pin was just outside the gauge case on that shaft.

Even with this pin removed, it's a PITA to get the gauge out of the case.

It's a plastic snap fit that is very dificult to remove with out disasembling the gauge. Once the gauge is open you can easily squeeze the clips together & remove it.
