Hi

Whilst pondering over the merits, or not, of triple 45's over HD8's for a 100/6 resto, I was curious to know which TIPO 45's the original works 3000 used and how many progression holes they had?

Also I'd be interested to hear how any of you currently using 45's, for racing or not, are getting on and which TIPO's you are using etc.

I'm pretty sure the one's used by the works were 45 DCOE 9. Although in the mysterious world of Webers that doesn't tell you everything. There are various sub types such as 2E, 3E and 6G. The 2Es have 2 holes and 3Es have 3, I think the 6Gs have only 2 holes and no idea why they are called 6G. I have forgotten the type number sold by DWR (and others) but they are more 'modern' versions than the 9 and I believe they have 4 progression holes. I have the 45DCOE 9 but if I was buying again I would go for the later model. Externally they all look pretty much the same but 4 holes give a smoother progression than 3 or 2 and avoid little hesitations in normal driving. If you floor the throttle you effectively miss out the progression anyway.

Unless you are upgrading the rest of your engine, in particular a much hotter cam, then there is no point in getting Webers, you will be over-fuelled.

Thanks for that info, very informative and highlights exactly why I asked. I've collected 2 of the three 9's I may need and noticed one has two progression holes whilst the other has three: Ah the joys of Webers. I'll keep an eye out for my final one and may end up doing a little machining if necessary. I've not totally made my mind up to go down the weber route yet and have three HD8's winking at me in my garage so more reading and listening required I think.

sorry about the TIPO typo in the title.

cheers.
