TRF

Agree completely. I've been a TRF buyer for about 20 years now, also VB, BPNW, Moss. And unfortunately ebay which is definitely riskier. We need them all.

No matter the warts we need them all, including ebay!

Tinkerman

I've bought from all except Moss. I've even bought from Rimmers. As said, they all have their warts.

I once did a return to TRF for a refund. I never got the refund, but the same amount was on credit and deducted from my next order.

TRF has always been a disaster when it comes to their parts system. Catalogs with all sorts of multi-colored price sheets, an impossible to master web page, the nasty habit of backordering parts on you for eternity, loosing orders chronically, losing payments, losing refunds.

I've learned that when dealing with TRF, I must keep scrupulously thorough and complete records, and keep them for forever.

That said, they are delightfull at car shows and throw a terrific summer party. They mean well, they just don't seem to have a clue how to run a business.

I been fairly lucky over the years with TRF, they usually go out of there way to satify my needs.
Since they are out of PA, It's usally an overnight delivery.

Moss I find is slightly limited when it comes to certain parts. They have also been helpful.

VB has also been resourceful.

Ebay!, well what can I say............

I have yet to order from Rimmer, but their catolog seems very intensive.

I've spent $25K in parts in the last two years. Working on TR3's. Mostly from Moss and some from VB. I have yet to call TRF for a part that they stocked.
I would love to support the company but when I'm working I need the part asap. Not in six weeks or perhaps never. Perhaps they are not set up for the restorer but for the average home car buff...

What would be nice is if MOSS, VB and TRF has an on line inventory system to go along with the wish lists.
I believe BPNW supports this type of feature.
That way one could tell if the part was in stock or not prior to ordering.

I enjoy working with TRF but I have to agree, their website is hopeless. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to find anything there. Moss' is far superior. Rimmer's is even better.

I have conducted literally thousands of Ebay transactions and the amazing thing to me is that anything that I've bought or sold on Ebay dealing with LBC's are mostly always other LBC enthusiasts. Many that I've recognized as fellow BCF or 6-Pack members. Like me, most have very large Ebay feedback numbers with satisfactory results. What can I say?

I know BPNW tells you on the on-line ordering whether it is in stock. I guess there could be a mistake.

Over the past year my experience with eBay has gone a little sour. Most folks are way overstating the quality of their stuff. If you want to return it and they will take it, you are stuck with the shipping cost both ways and restocking fee. I lost $50 shipping on brake drums that a seller sent that were just wrong. Not my fault. This seller had a feedback of something like 17,000 and most was positive. When I went to post negative feedback, they were no longer a registered seller. I know for a fact a transmission shop that sells on ebay that has had numerous complaints, but they have no neg FB.

But I did score a NOS ring and pinion for the Spitfire for $125.

Victoria British tells you when online ordering whether a part is in stock, I have not had to get a refund from TRF, but have had a couple things on back order, my three experiences with back orders from TRF have involved months, whereas Moss VB and BPNW have been days or weeks at most.

Pure conjecture, but I think the others mostly order more parts as soon as they run out, I think TRF must wait until they have a batch of the part or parts to order from that supplier.

That being said I have ordered most of my TR250 parts from TRF, as my car needs everything they have had something for sale in their weekend specials pretty much every weekend that I can use, and that has saved me major bucks.

As far as time of dleivery, a lot of that is simply where you live, for me VB is much much faster than anybody else. But right now as the car won't be back on the road for some time and there is plenty to do, time of delivery is not an issue right now.

For all the suppliers I am amazed at how well stocked they are, it is often faster and easier these days to get parts for your LBC than it is many times for the more obscure parts (outside the routine maintenance parts) for your modern iron.

Charles wrote that he's out of the country until next week, which might be the cause for the delay.

Otherwise I've no idea ... never returned anything for a refund.

Parts backorders are a different story, but also a different situation. TRF cannot force their suppliers to ship the parts any more than we can force TRF to ship them to us. And a lot of the little cottage industries that TRF buys from just don't care (or in some cases have ceased to function).

I ordered a stripe kit from TRF. It was backordered for I can't remember how long. Nice surprise when it came in though. I'd forgotten all about it.

I have been using BPNW a lot lately. When ever I call them they always seem to know what the problem is with my TR6. I always get my parts overnight. I've used them for years but I think they have matured a lot in the last couple of years. I may be biased because they're just up I-5 a ways but they are the only ones that lace the packing with Chocolate!

I got a lot of chocolate from them in the past three months. Just too bad that they're so far away, but I have Moss and TRF relatively close, so it's a wash.
