Tree expert needed

image.jpgMy son has had a large oak tree taken down and is cutting and splitting it for firewood. When they got inside the trunk it is bright blue. Any ideas as to why this would be?

I'm no tree expert, but if I was going to guess, I'd think some kind of fungus.
 
I'm 99.44% sure the oak has "blue stain" spalting (fungus). Makes it desirable to furniture and musical instrument makers.

But hey - what do I know?

I do not know how far he is with cutting it up but I have a slab of Bastogne Walnut that is drying that
