treatment of our military

Just before I retired in 88 from the Air Force, I was a lowly semior NCO that was put in charge of a gaggle of mechanics on a deployment to Myrtle Beach SC....sounds great huh?? Got there and we had been advised we'd be staying in motels on the beach...but at thelast minute we were told to go to barracks such and such. Oh well..press on. Got there and what do we see??? A big symbol on this dump saying its been condemned. Stowed our gear...cleaned it up and headed out to get ready to get our vehicles, prep the flightline shack for recovery of jets an grab some chow. A few hours later got back to a bottom floor of raw sewage. Awfully pleasant . We were told to open windows, scoop and sweep(tools happily supplied) and then move up to an upper floor. Our boots and anything not up high were soaked. Being rather outspoken, I was on the phone to the big guy back here at Cannon AFB. Within an hour the base commander showed up, almost lost his lunch and like magic...we had rental cars and authorazation to move off base.I'm not trying to minimize the the problems at Bragg...just trying to show there are trends in the military. The barracks I lived in while at Danang Vietnam was like a Hilton to what these guys have there in N.C.

Thanks Jack - I think one of the things that gets me is that a couple of the reports of this Ft Bragg problem, including the father who made one of the youtube videos, indicated the problem existed at least a year and a half ago - and didn't start getting "fixed by management" until the youtube video appeared.

That building has been existence for decades, and has been used to house our military returning from Iraq, etc., Sure seems it should have been fixed up by someone other than the guys who are assigned there month after month, tour after tour.

Frankly it's an amazing sign of the times, how reports on "conditions" for returning vets (remember the Walter Reed embarrassment?) seem to spur rapid action only after they're made public on the 'net.
