Went to fire up the Norton this morning after a week or so - she fired on 2nd kick but ran rough with smoke outa the left pipe...then she just died, like fuel starvation....pulled the carbs apart - lots of trash in left one....guess I've gotta drain & clean the tank.

LESSON LEARNED: Always drain the gas tank & carbs if a Norton is going to sit more than a week. Even if you use 93-octane!
 
I keep my tanks topped off, fuel valves off and carbs drained when not riding for a week or more.

Excellent Plan. I like to put in line filters too. Drained carbs don't get varnished up. Tanke with no air space get a lot less condensation from moist air.

Petcocks on a Norton have filter screens built in them - I'm suspecting mine have rusted away so its probably time for new petcocks or small in-lines.
