Brief synopsis of the problem. A month ago I inadvertantly let the clutch out in first gear, car stalled, transmission locked up. Got it loose by turning the tailshaft later and it did drive. There was a feeling of the synchro not working quite right between 2&3. Oil had bronze metallic in it. BJ7 center shifter.
Last night I swapped in another transmission to get myself back on the road and did a visual on the old box. The synchros appear to be steel between 2&3 and look good. However, the shifter fork for 3&4 appears to be disintegrating as it is probably 2/3 the thickness (front to back vs circumference) of the one in the replacement box. This may have been a faulty part from prior to the restoration, I do not know. Is there any precautions to take so this does not happen again or any thoughts as to why it may have happened? This now explains the bronze metallic in the oil but does not explain the clipping sensation between 2&3.
