First thing I'd do is call John Twist, given his proximity just outside Grand Rapids and the fact you can actually call him and ask questions.

You missed the hands-on seminar (in February) where you go to class with your gearbox and tools in hand and rebuild it under watchful eyes. Not cheap, $395 for seminar plus lodging if overnight, plus parts around $400 (or more) plus time off work for weekday events - but claimed to be well worth it.,

well worth it indeed. That's not to say I've been to that seminar, but having taken pretty much an entire car apart and put it back together again I can attest to the value of knowing what's going on under the hood and behind the gaskets. It makes you a better driver IMO and offers a great sense of security motoring at high speeds in our OLD vehicles.
Someday in the next few years I'll drive out of my driveway in a GT6 that I will have literally touched every nut and bolt and valve and hose, it will be a brand new 40 year old car, hopefully worth at least half of what I put into it!!! I know I will drive that car differently from any other car I've ever sat in.
