TR2/3/3A Transmission fluid for 57 TR-3 Manual OD Trans

Is the car new to you? Can you check what is in there now.

There is a lub chart from the handbook. Has several oils to chose from but you may find the numbers are out of date now. Castrol XXL for over 70 degrees or Castrol XL for 10 to 70 degrees.

I use StaLube 85/90 GL4 gear oil in my TR3 transmission with OD. It is what the factory originally recommended. It works good in a warm climate.

Opinions vary and even the factory changed their recommendation along the way.

Since you presumably do not know what is in there it seems to me your safest bet is a drain and refill with what you prefer.

I use a RedLine synthetic but have also used straight 30 weight non-detergent motor oil in the past.
