Transmission fill plug access

It seems to me I crossed this bridge a while ago, but I've heard there is supposed to be a plug on the side of the transmission tunnel so you can get to the oil fill easily. Are these still supposed to be on the 1500? I haven't spotted one, but I may be looking in the wrong place in the interior.

You can't see it from the interior. It's on the passenger side just about mid way to everything. Get it on stands. take off the plug. put some hose on the end of the gear oil bottle and fill through the engine compartment. It is easy but basically a two person job, or one person and a MOWOG.

That's what I had to do a while back when I changed the transmission oil, but sometime after that I heard there was supposed to be a rubber plug lined up with the fill plug that made it much easier to fill without a long hose. Maybe that was on the 1275 and earlier.

yea, on my 1974, in the drivers footwell, there is a rubber plug when removed gives access to the transmission fluid fill hole. exactly like the rubber plug in the passenger footwell to access the clutch slave cylinder

Well, if you are referring to a rib-case trans, the rubber plug is on the driver's side on the trans tunnel (right about adjacent to where your right knee would be!), not in the foot-well like the access to the clutch slave on the passenger's side! I use an oil-filler I bought at Advance Auto which is a cap that fits quart oil containers, with a twist-open feature and about a 12" clear hose. It is PERFECT for filling the trans!!

Jeeze guys - just because the car was "designed" for an Austin-Morris-MG engine and not a Triumph engine doesn't mean you have to rub it in - throw the poor guy a bone :driving:
