There is a serial number stamped on the tranny. Unfortunately the factory never recorded the transmission number along with the car number, so it is not possible to tie a specific transmission to a specific car. With some digging you might be able to tie some broad ranges of trans numbers to broad ranges of car numbers but I think that is a close as you are going to get.
I don't know about the differential, but I expect the same is true there.

Only stamping on the MGB differential that I am aware of is the gearset ratio of the gears originally found inside, stamped on the "pumpkin"...ie 43 14 or 43 13

There is also an axle number stamped on the left axle tube (tube-type axles.) Look in the middle of the left tube facing the rear for the axle number.
For the gear ratios, look on the top flat part of the center casting just right of the top and just forward of the cover.
On my MGC roadster Heritage Certificate both the axle number and the (auto) transmission numbers were recorded. However, only 4-digit numbers were recorded, no prefix- or suffix-codes on the transmission.
