Could someone with a more agile mind than mine please help?

I sent this to an ebay seller about a computer: "Does the red light on the drive come on when you press the Return key?"

The reply:

Sorry, the red light comes on when we first turn it on. Lare unfamiliar.

(I'm feeling less and less competent in my own language!)

I'm missing the context of the question. The drive might not need to be accessed by simply pressing the return (or enter) key. Sounds like he is referring to the power indicator LED.
 
Thanks gentlemen. I'm looking for a replacement keyboard for my 1981 Osborne computer. The only "indicator lights" on the machine are the two drive lights, which come on momentarily (1) when you first power up the machine, and (2) when the drive attempts to read the system disk inside.

You can't boot the machine unless the drive reacts to pressing the Return key: the drive light then momentarily goes on while the drive spins.

It's one of the common problems when a non-computer person tries following instructions from a computer person - I was trying to make the instructions clear, but not having much success.

Jeez, my 1981 Osborne's keyboard's membrane matrix failed after only 38 years. Shoddy merchandise!

I figured it was an older computer. My last four haven't had any red lights, all blue with the occasional green for charging. Just didn't think you were talking about something that old.

I think the reply said that it only comes on for condition (1), and doesn't come on when you press return, therefore, it doesn't work any better than the one you have.
