Speaking of antarctic expeditions, I've got the PBS documentary "Chasing Shackleton" in my iTunes movie collection. It is a three-part series in which a team of modern-day adventurers, led by Tim Jarvis, set out to retrace Shackleton's amazing journey from Elephant Island in Antarctica to a whaling station on South Georgia Island to effect rescue of his stranded crew. The journey included over 800 miles in a small lifeboat and an on-foot trek across the width of S. Georgia Island. The modern team used a replica of the Shackleton boat, with the same period-correct clothing and the same provisions and equipment that the Shackleton team used. They wanted to recreate the journey as closely as possible to the experience that the Shackleton team had.
