ive got my trans out from my 1963 bj7 for a rebuild ive done this several times before many years ago,the reason im doing this is because when down shifting from third to second the transition is a bit "sticky" ill be changing all the synchs. while its open, reading the workshop manual, and other sources of inspiration i opened that puppy up this afternoon i have to say anyone considering doing this would be much better off not even looking at the "moss" parts list blow up of this unit less ya godda buy parts! its a lot easier then those pictures look, im fortunate enough not to have to rebuild the over drive so while the trans. is sitting up right on a couple of pieces of 2x4 removing the main shaft cotter pin nut and washer i was able to slide the o.d. straight up off the trans. hence not needing to do the "wire trick" so far the most difficult thing has been keeping everything clean, id first power washed the unit with hot water and soap, 1800 psi, then pulled it from the car next one gallon of degreaser and both wire and soft brushes, next softer brushes and clean rags with brake cleaner ,unless your able to submerge the entire trans. in some sort of washing vibrating system its hard to get rid of all the grit and sand particles, ill just keep at it, here are some picts. ive taken so for, your best wishes on this project tips, comments,be careful fors,or dont does, etc would be much appreciated, hope youll enjoy this as much as i am, thanks.
