Tranny oil-did I screw up?

The old Ford transmissions..pre-48 and some 50's 'granny' 4 speeds called for 600w gear oil.

I drove a '49 F-1 for four years as my daily driver. I changed the trans lube as soon as i bought the truck as it had been 'in the barn' for over 30 years.

I thought that 80w140 would be a good substitute for the 600w. WRONG! The thing was a non-syncro in all geras. The trans needed the heavy oil to slow down the gears and allow smooth, grind-free shifting. It would shift perfectly in cold weather (40 deg. or less) so I finally broke down and put in the correct lube...presto! Grind free shifting.

so what was the final verdict on the gl-4/gl-5 syntheic by Royal Purple for differentials? To slippery? Ok?

This is what I picked up, but I want to know before I use it this weekend.
