What brand and viscosity of oil do you run in each? I'm getting ready to drain and refill, just thought I would do a quick survey.

Quaker SAE 30 mineral oil. I decided on SAE 30 viscosity based on what I read on buckeyetriumphs.org. It's been almost a thousand miles and nothing bad yet.

Edit: for my tr6, not spitfire, apologies.

Stay with what the books recommend: 90wt GL4-spec oil. Still readily available through most NAPA stores, and the GL4 is pretty much critical to keep yellow metal bits such as shims in the diff. from being eaten up. Some synthetics might be ok, but I stay with what's "proven"!

Andy, per your advice I've got my GL-4 Sta-lube from NAPA. I'd like to try and remove the oil remaining in the diff, any suggestions? (I do have a mighty vac, on hand to suction)

Thanks Andy, you Da' man.

I'm running non-detergent 30 weight motor oil in the OD transmission in my 64 Spit. I am using GL4 in the diff. I also had GL4 in the tranny, but changed after Esposito publicized some info he had about the various lubes. Both lubes worked fine in the trans.

Thanks Bill, before I fully understood the issues with GL-5 and their reactions I've just topped off my Diff with what I could get my hands on locally, now I know. I have the vac from moss to hopefully pull as much of the old out, sooo.. keep your fingers crossed. I became really obsessed with my diff after reading the last couple of articles in Hemmings Sports and Exotic re: diff rebuild etc...

By the by Andy, that is one heck of a web site you have there for the Sports 6 and Herald, you should be proud indeed! I've been thinking recently what car to add once money is not so tight, I keep coming back to the Herald, with the GT6 a close second. I have a close friend that has a very nicely preserved Herald, if he ever lets it go, it's mine!
